Physical Geography

Zhenjiang is situated in the southwestern
part of Jiangsu Province, on the southern bank
of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River,
at the apex of the Yangtze River Delta. It
lies between 31°37′ and 32°19′ north latitude,
and 118°58′ and 119°58′ east longitude.
The maximum straight-line distance from east
to west is 95.5 kilometers, and from south
to north, 76.9 kilometers.
History and Culture

In 1954,“Yihou Ze”Bronze Gui(food
container),a Western Zhou Dynasty
national treasure with 126-character
inscriptions on it, was unearthed
from Yandun hill,Dagang,Zhenjiang.
More than 3,000years ago,King Kang
of Zhou(1026-1001 B.C.)enfeoffed
the land of Yi to the noble Ze
and granted him the title of
Yihou.
Administrative Divisions and Population

The name "Zhenjiang" (literally "Guarding the
River") was first officially adopted in the
third year of the Zhenghe era of the Northern
Song Dynasty (1113), when Zhenjiang
Prefecture was established. It remained in
use throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming, and
Qing dynasties.After the Revolution of
1911, it was renamed Dantu County, and in
1928, it became Zhenjiang County. From
