Zhenjiang New Area (Zhenjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone), known as "Yi" in ancient times, has a history of 3,000 years. It locates at the "east wing" of the "One Body and Two Wings" overall layout of the city’s main urban area, occupies a total area of 222 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 264,000. It has administration over 2 sub districts as Dingmao and Dagang and 3 towns as Dinggang, Dalu and Yaoqiao.
In May 1992, Zhenjiang Economic Development Zone was established in Dingmao. In October 1993, Zhenjiang Dagang Economic Development Zone was established. In June 1998, the two economic development zones were merged into Zhenjiang New Area. In April 2010, it was upgraded to a state-level economic and technological development zone.
In 2022, the GDP of the region achieved 82.67 billion yuan, an increase of 3.2% calculated on a comparable basis. Taxable industrial sales reached 122 billion yuan, and the total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 10.9%. Revenue from the general public budget was 5.598 billion yuan calculated with the same caliber and the volume of import and export trade reached 39.19 billion yuan, a rise of 42.6% year on year.
